About Jim Preston
Jim is Managing Director of Corrosion Prevention Limited, a specialist consultancy providing corrosion investigations, assessments, cathodic protection design and technical services.
Jim is a chartered engineer, specialising in corrosion and cathodic protection. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion and an Honorary Member of the Society of Environmental Engineer.
He has worked in the fields of structural repair and cathodic protection for over 25 years, including 15 years working for Contracting organisations and latterly over 10 years as a consultant. He is a certificated Level 3 cathodic protection engineer for reinforced concrete and marine structures.
Jim is currently Chair of the Corrosion Prevention Association
The presentation will look at common causes of corrosion for reinforced concrete structures and steel piling often used in port and harbour structures. These include chloride initiated corrosion of reinforcement in concrete and Accelerated Low Water Corrosion on steel piling. The presentation will look at methods to prevent corrosion including different types of cathodic protection systems. These solutions will be illustrated by case studies from around the UK.
